We went on vacation with the Economy Onroad at least twice a year…

…. and we also did many weekend trips, so we are a little experienced.

Concept of the Economy: The concept is very well thought out. Setup is possible within a few minutes if you really need to be quick. The poles of the add-on tent require a little more effort and time, but the result is quite feasible. Alone: The side walls could be 2-3 cm wider so that they close better to the entire tent. However, during summer vacations (mostly Mediterranean), we usually only use the roof and one side as a windbreak. That
is great, offers great freedom and yet shade.

Processing: You can feel the steel poles, the thick tent fabric and floor. Everything seems very robust. Water has not yet found its way inside, even though we have been traveling in continuous rain for over a week. The side walls of the trailer let individual drops into the interior. If you have the camping accessories in boxes, that’s not a problem. Otherwise, don’t put any sensitive items on the floor of the trailer. It is a cargo trailer,
so that’s perfectly normal.

“Defects”: I write in quotation marks because they are not real defects. Mosquito protection entrance door Economy: Here the zipper loosens and the door no longer closes properly. Since we have the mosquito net, we don’t care. It could also be that we had tensioned the tent too tightly and thus caused the problem ourselves.

Cover: We now had to replace the cover over the closed tent (https://shop.campwerk.de/cover-fuer-zeltanhaenger-in-schwarz). The beginning of the zipper was torn. The cover comes as an actual tarpaulin, plus the lower part that is attached to the trailer and some spare buckles and straps that are located on the trailer itself. The counterparts to this are firmly sewn on. We were a little concerned that we would not be able to accomplish the replacement – these are completely unfounded. It’s really very easy. We now use the old tarpaulin as protection under the tent. We probably also have to attribute this defect to ourselves, because we had stowed a lot of additional things under the tarpaulin on the tent.

T-connectors: These plastic parts will break at some point. Hot solar load and cold wear out the material. Unfortunately, we have not yet found any suitable spare parts for this. Everything purchased so far was not suitable.

Transport tube for poles: We bought the transport tube later. In our case, it is mounted on the passenger side with the opening facing backwards in the direction of travel, because the car has a support load of only 50 kg and we therefore wanted to shift weight backwards. Fits great and is ideal for us. Here, too, the assembly was easy for people who can drill holes in aluminum and use screws.

Homemade accessories: I have prepared two chains with larger carabiners in a very stable design. One carabiner is attached to the locking eye when the tailgate is open (opening downwards), and the locking pin of the flap hangs in the other end of the chain. That on both sides. This is how the tailgate is aligned, like the trailer, and hangs horizontally. The cooker can stand on it and the oil in the pan distributes well. Transport boxes can also be parked. Presumably you could also sit on it – the chains can withstand hundreds of kilos, but the flap is not intended for this, so we leave it at the described load. That’s great.

I could have made it short: We are thrilled after five vacation seasons and many weekend uses. You hardly notice the trailer behind the car, everything is set up quickly, the part is robust and you have the car on site for excursions. Storage in the garage next to the house during the season so that you can get away quickly on the weekend. But we also have a hall for drying if it should be damp when dismantling.

Huge amount of space in the trailer itself. We have chairs, table etc. very deep at the end (i.e. on the drawbar side) because these things are light (I remember the mini support load of the car). Behind it are 6 Euroboxes and on top of that possibly six Ifco boxes (the folding boxes from the supermarket in which fruit and vegetables are delivered). Then we have a large wooden ladder at the end for a form-fitting fit. This means that everything is very securely packed, quickly accessible and great for us. Bicycles and SUP are in our car (high-roof station wagon). Perfect. We have recommended the Economy several times and have been able to convince friends of it.
