Camping Ratgeber:
Dimensions: Will it fit my car?
The roof tent can be mounted on almost any vehicle with a dynamic roof load of at least 75 kg.
You only need 2 cross struts/load carriers.
The roof tent is then attached to the cross struts/load carriers using the enclosed materials.
Mounting directly on a roof railing is not recommended, as the distance to the roof is very small and the U-bolts can cause scratches.
You therefore need cross struts/load carriers even with roof rails.
The roof tents have the following dimensions when packed:
- 140 x 120 cm Pack size
- 217 x 139 cm Pack size
- 195 x 120 cm Pack size
Weight: Maximum payload
For most vehicles, the roof load is between 75 – 100 kg, but this specification refers to the load when the vehicle is in motion!
When stationary, the weight acting on the roof may be significantly higher.
In the event of a rollover, the car must be able to rest on the roof, so you don’t need to worry about this.
The individual weights of the roof tents:
- Adventure – approx. 60 kg featherweight
- Skycamp 2.0 – approx. 74 kg featherweight (410 kg load capacity)
- Skycamp Mini – approx. 57 kg featherweight (410 kg load capacity)
- X-Cover – 55 kg lightweight (410 kg load capacity)

Rocky Black hard shell: Matt black & robust
The two Skycamp roof tents are now also available in the “Rocky Black” version.
The hard shell has a matt black LineX coating.
This gives the roof tent a robust look and not only cuts a fine figure off-road.
It also reduces air resistance on the road.
The unique hard shell has a special air zone between the outer and inner shape.
This air zone makes the hard shell strong, durable and also insulates the inside of the roof tent against noise and cold.
X-Cover: New PVC tarpaulin
The new cover saves time and energy. >Conventional bulky PVC covers are sometimes a bit of a sporting challenge, especially for tall vehicles.
The new patented cover only closes the necessary area on the sides between the waterproof floor and lid.
The PVC tarpaulin is firmly integrated and is closed with a sturdy, equally waterproof zipper.
At just 55 kg, the iKamper X-Cover is an absolute lightweight among roof tents despite its size.
It is therefore also suitable for smaller vehicles.
Further information on the X-Cover model:
- 1-4 persons
- 230 x 190 cm sleeping area
- approx. 3 min assembly time
- 410kg load capacity
- 195 x 120 cm Pack size
- 55 kg Lightweight
Material: Tent fabric and tent base
The tent fabric consists of a very high-quality 300 g blended fabric, also known as canvas.
The fiber is a textile work of art made from cotton and polyester and combines the advantages of a natural fiber with those of a modern high-tech material.
The result is a strong, breathable fabric with a pleasant feel and great dimensional stability.
The tent fabric, which is also used by the military, is impregnated and extra tear-resistant.
All seams are made with special thread that expands after the first contact with water and seals any seam holes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgaQjlYUw34 The floor of the iKamper Skycamp roof tent is made of aluminum honeycomb panels.
This material offers unprecedented stability and is also very light.
It is fireproof, environmentally friendly (as it is fully recyclable) and provides an insulating layer to the sleeping area of the tent.
Extras around the roof tent: inner tent, awning & storage net
For many campers, getting a roof tent is not enough.
Inner tent: protection against liquids
A person loses up to 400 ml of liquid per night.
Breathing, sweating or cooking creates a lot of moisture, which can condense on the inside of the outer tent, especially on cold nights.
To reduce this effect, it is worth buying an inner tent made of 100% cotton.
It is simply attached to the existing poles of the roof tent and you have a double-walled roof tent.
The inner tent has zippered openings on each entrance side and on both sides of the window for better ventilation on hot days.

Awning: Extra living space with floor
Awning: sun & rain protection
The awning offers optimum sun and rain protection when you and your family are traveling.
The awning is quickly attached to the tent with the zipper and the huge covered area ensures that the seating area and kitchen are always in the shade/dry.
This can be used for the Skycamp & X-Cover.
You can find more information about the awning, as well as its advantages and disadvantages, in this article!
Storage net: practical & space-saving
You can never have enough space!
That’s why a new storage net is always worthwhile.
Inspired by load securing on airplanes, the new and extra sturdy luggage net provides additional storage space under the floor.
Whether camping chairs, dog toys or your own laundry.
The Adventure storage net is always an ideal extension for the roof tent.
