Map: How to get to the south
The Allgäu is often referred to as a region, even though it cannot actually be defined geographically.
However, it can be said that the Allgäu consists of the southernmost end of the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia.
Every year, numerous tourists from all over the world come to the Allgäu to spend a few days close to nature.

My recommended cities as a simple route:
Oberstdorf: Recreation & vacation in winter
Oberstdorf is located in the Oberallgäu region and is considered a spa and Kneipp health resort, which is why it is visited by many tourists every year who want to completely switch off and relax.
However, not only spa and wellness offers await you here, but also other scenic highlights such as the Breitachklamm gorge, Freibergsee lake or the Riedberger and Rubihorn mountains.
However, holidaymakers also particularly enjoy coming here in winter, as Oberstdorf is a paradise for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding, as well as winter camping.
Equipped with a heater, electric blanket and, if necessary, a seat heater, you don’t have to worry about freezing even when camping with a roof tent.

Kempten is considered a student town and therefore offers many opportunities to go out and have fun.
But at the same time, you can also go for a great walk, explore the area with an ice cream in your hand or browse the stores.
For those interested in history, there are, for example, the state rooms of the Kempten Residence, the Basilica of St. Lawrence Church or the Kempten Museum in the Zumsteinhaus to visit.
The Cambodunum Archaeological Park, an excavation site, should also definitely be on your to-do list.

Füssen: Lake Hopfensee, Neuschwanstein Castle & museums
Füssen borders Austria to the south and therefore almost invites you to take a walk there.
The vacation resort also boasts numerous historical museums, one of which is located in the Benedictine monastery of St. Mang.
History and culture enthusiasts will get their money’s worth here, as the history of lute and violin making in Füssen is on display.
However, a very special highlight and probably the town’s trademark is the romantic Neuschwanstein Castle or Hohenschwangau Castle.
These are best combined with a hike on a day trip to admire the beautiful surrounding areas.
The picturesque Hopfensee lake, a summer toboggan run and a cable car with amazing panoramic views also await you.
