Westerhever lighthouse & salt marshes: SPO’s landmark

Germany’s most famous lighthouse, the Westerhever lighthouse, can only be reached on foot or by bike.
It is located approx. 1,000 meters from the outer dyke.
On the way back, it is worth walking through the salt marshes, as you have seen two sights in one walk.
The two houses to the left and right of the lighthouse used to be inhabited by the lighthouse keeper and his family.
Today they are used by the Wadden Sea National Park Authority, which also offers exhibitions about the Wadden Sea.
The lighthouse can be visited by appointment on Mondays and Wednesdays with the old lighthouse keeper.
Tip: From the very top, at a total height of 41.5 meters, you can enjoy a wonderful view over large parts of Eiderstedt and the island and Hallig world.
A little insider tip for lovers: from April to September, wedding couples can say “I do” in the wedding room on Fridays.
