Camping tour to the sea – From Berlin to Rügen, Usedom & the Polish Baltic Sea – Whether on a long Whitsun weekend or during the summer vacations, a short trip with a roof tent is always worthwhile.
It brings a change to stressful everyday life and lets you feel connected to nature again.
All this at the side of the love of your life is priceless.
My girlfriend and I made the most of the favorable combination of good weather and several public holidays and took a trip to the Baltic Sea.
Numerous piers, historical treasures and attractions that made us feel like children again.
These unforgettable memories made a long weekend so much more enjoyable.
Why escape the stress of everyday life by watching TV when you can have breathtaking impressions of nature and lots of fun?
Above all, a trip like this is worthwhile for a little surprise!
A spontaneous trip to the surrounding area will make your heart beat faster.
Let yourself be enchanted by the magic of the Baltic Sea!

Tour planning to the Baltic Sea: route and stops
Nature is in full bloom, the sun is coming out more and more often and the smell of wet grass is in the air.
Spring brings so many beautiful things with it, including the many long weekends and public holidays.
That’s exactly what I wanted to take advantage of and go on a short vacation with my girlfriend.
As a young professional, everyday life is more stressful after a long period of study and hasn’t yet settled into a routine.
That’s why the long weekend comes in handy.
I quickly packed my bags and headed off to the seaside.
It’s supposed to be a pleasant 20 degrees this week.
Perfect conditions for a great trip.
We’re not far from the sea, but I really want to visit Rügen with her.
Many of our friends have raved about the town and showered us with photos.
I’ve also planned a little surprise. Tip! Take a look at our article on the most popular Baltic Sea beaches: Top Baltic Sea beaches.
On the road with the roof tent: first rays of sunshine in spring
Camping is very important to us.
As small children, we traveled with our families every year until we became closer as teenagers.
At the campfire, of all places, where we sat around all night.
Sounds like something out of a schmaltzy romance movie, but that’s actually what happened.
That’s why we take a photo around the campfire every year, so that we now have a whole album.
We used to travel with my parents’ camper van.
This year, however, we decided to rent a roof tent.
Our plan is to buy something ourselves as soon as possible.
We don’t know yet whether it will be a roof tent, a caravan or a folding caravan.
That’s exactly why it’s worth renting for the short vacation.
That way we can test it out before we invest!

Rügen: Incredible panorama in the Jasmund National Park – stage destination 1
We reached Rügen after almost three hours.
The photos and videos didn’t promise too little.
A paradisiacal panorama in bright sunshine.
It doesn’t feel like Germany at all.
Turquoise blue water, miles of white beaches and a unique chalk coastline.
A certain Caribbean feeling spreads through your chest.
As far as the eye can see, you’ll find glorious nature and historical treasures.
With so many sights to choose from, it was difficult to decide what to do first.
But the Jasmund National Park was the absolute highlight on Rügen.
The large beech forest stretches over 3,100 hectares and surrounds numerous springs.
The white chalk coasts with their radiant green forests meet the turquoise blue sea, a real play of colors.
There is also an incredible view from the Königsstuhl.
At 118 meters, it offers a panorama of untouched, picturesque nature that you won’t easily forget.

Places of interest: Cape Arkona, Ostseebad Binz & Sellin pier
After we left, hunger got the better of us.
Nevertheless, we wanted to experience and see as much as possible in the short time we had.
So why not simply combine a restaurant and a place of interest?
That’s exactly what you can do at the Sellin pier.
The dream castle by the sea shines brightly in the night, the seagulls fly around and the long pier tempts you to take a romantic stroll.
Surrounded by the sea and yet in a safe haven from the meter-high waves that crash against the bridge, you feel so free.
For a brief moment, you have the illusion of walking on the sea.
The most delicious specialties awaited us in the restaurant.
In addition to freshly caught fish and seafood, there were plenty of alternatives for my vegetarian girlfriend.
Afterwards, we had the best ice cream, gelato de luxe from Giovanni L. and fragrant cakes from the private patisserie.
With our stomachs so full, we had to lie down and relax.
Luckily, we were right by the seaside resort, so it was time to get out our towels and enjoy the gentle rays of sunshine on our skin.

Overnight stay and campsite
Now night had fallen, after the eventful day in Rügen we were dreaming of going to bed.
Before that, we had to put up the roof tent.
Fortunately, this was done in a matter of minutes and with a few simple steps.
For the romantic atmosphere, a little warmth and our tradition, the campfire still had to be made as the grand finale.
We are probably no longer as full of energy as we were back then, because after an hour around the campfire, it was time to go to sleep.

Usedom: Imperial Spas & Piers – Stage destination 2
The second day of our trip could then start with full energy.
After just 2 hours, we were there and ready to discover the island.
Of course, our first stop was Bansin.
Past the tropical zoo, a twelve-kilometer-long promenade literally invited us to take a romantic stroll.
We walked hand in hand and tried to live fully in the moment, wanting to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere before getting back to stressful work.
As they say, the calm before the storm.
We unpacked our blanket in a secluded spot and had a relaxed picnic.
The Polish border was just a few kilometers from us.
Swinemünde, or “Świnoujście” in Polish, was so close, but still so far away, a completely different place.
The street names alone were unpronounceable and tied our tongues in knots.
Nevertheless, the local people were specialized in German tourists, so we had no problems.

Must-see: sights, culture & shopping
Usedom is famous for its three imperial spas. Even back then, Kaiser Wilhelm II resided in these beautiful places. That is why the enchanting stretches of beach were given his name. Golden sand, 12 kilometers of promenade and striking piers immediately enchant you. You can’t blame the emperor for often enjoying the mild island climate there. Today, it is the extravagant luxury villas that enchant the eyes of tourists. One villa follows another like a string of architectural pearls. In Usedom, I must have fulfilled the typical childhood dream of my girlfriend. Admittedly, I was also deeply impressed to see so many different colorful species. As a city kid, you usually only see the white butterflies, if you get to see any at all. There we encountered butterflies with tiger patterns, intense blue wings or peacock eyes on their reddish-brown upper wings. It felt a bit like a fairy tale. Attractions and sights in Usedom:
- Three imperial spas – Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin
- Sea bridges
- Historical-Technical Museum Peenemünde
- Butterfly farm Trassenheide
- Mill beacon

Overnight stay and campsite
This time we were at the campsite earlier because I wanted to surprise my girlfriend tomorrow.
She thought we would spend the day here or drive home.
But our trip is going to Poland!
For us, that means preparing snacks for tomorrow morning and going to the shops to have enough energy for two city trips.

My personal highlight: Misdroy on the Polish Baltic Sea
One of the most famous seaside resorts on the Polish Baltic coast – Misdroy.
That’s where our trip was supposed to take us.
My girlfriend was a bit annoyed that we were leaving so early.
She didn’t know that we weren’t going home, but to beautiful Misdroy.
She fell asleep in the middle of the journey, which made the surprise all the better.
Instead of waking up in Berlin, we were in Poland.
We arrived within an hour.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5QgQq1jEYk Our first stop felt more like L.A., the “Walk of Fame” in Misdroy.
On the “Aleja Gwiazd” there are handprints of great film and theater actors who have been appearing at the annual film festival since 1996.
From there we went to the “Molo”, which is one of the longest sea bridges in Poland.
With a length of 395 meters you had a fantastic view of the sea.
Before that, we treated ourselves to a delicious hot chocolate in one of the many cafés and then our real attraction began – the pirate ship.
Anyone who thinks this is only for children is very much mistaken.
Back on land, we were able to marvel at other sights along the promenade.
The amphitheater, the Neptune sculpture and the “upside down house” were incredibly impressive.
At some point, our heads were spinning.
That meant taking a break in the beautiful spa gardens, which are overgrown with gigantic oaks and plane trees.
A really well-kept and species-rich park, which is also the final resting place of important personalities.
Traditional cuisine in Misdroy: My restaurant tip
Pierogi – Delicious dumplings with different fillings.
Whether savory with meat and cabbage, sweet with blueberries and strawberries or the so-called “Pierogi ruskie” with potatoes and cream.
This Polish specialty is a true classic and is just as much a part of the trip as sightseeing.
Not far from the sea, you have the great advantage of being on the spot in one jump.
There are also many other super specialties such as homemade soups, fish dishes and more traditional cuisine.
It’s definitely worth a visit.

Szczecin: Our final destination of the road trip
Szczecin is a historically valuable city.
After all the relaxing by the sea and sleeping on the beach, we also wanted to take some knowledge with us and continue our cultural education.
That’s why Szczecin was perfect for this.
Roman Catholic churches, ducal residences and 100-year-old buildings adorn the city.
We opted for a hop-on hop-off tour so that we could get the right knowledge as laypeople.
It was great fun and we learned a lot.
I guess you never stop learning. Other places of interest:
- Old Town – Stare Miasto
- Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes in Szczecin
- Hook terrace – Wały Chrobrego
- Cathedral of St. James
- Main building of the National Museum

Weather: temperature and trend
June to September is the best time for a warm vacation in Poland.
The sea temperature in August is 20.9 degrees, which makes bathing and swimming pleasant enough

Recommendation for young couples: Baltic Sea road trip
All in all, it was a wonderful short vacation.
It was far too short, but as they say, everything has an end.
Nevertheless, we want to go on another camping trip to the region in the future.
This time the roof tent will be bought and not rented, as it made our road trip even more enjoyable in many ways.
The long weekend will remain a wonderful memory forever In a very short time, we were able to see several beautiful spots on the Baltic Sea.
Definitely recommended for young couples who want to spend their long weekends in a more adventurous way than lying on the couch.
