Card games for campers – Card games are usually space-saving and lightweight, so you can take them with you wherever you go.
Whether in the roof tent at the campsite in the evening or during a break on the beach, card games can provide lots of fun for the family, especially on vacation with children.
Even if the weather isn’t playing ball and you have to enjoy your vacation in the rain, card games are a great way to bring some life into the family.
Here are six tips, from the classics such as Uno and Taboo, to Phase 10 and Quartet, to 6 takes or the puzzle game Werewolves.
Camping Ratgeber:
6 takes!
The card game requires strategic thinking and concentration as several rows of numbers are placed on the table and the players have to complete them.
The player who completes a row of numbers picks up the cards and receives minus points.
The first player with 66 minus points loses.
Due to the need to avoid minus points, the players have to be attentive and the game therefore promotes your ability to concentrate.
What you should know about “6 takes!”:
- Several rows of numbers on the table
- Objective: Players complete these rows
- Complete row = pick up cards
- Player who picks up = minus points
- 66 minus points: Player has lost
- Strategic thinking & concentration

Phase 10
Phase 10 is one of the best-selling card games in the world.
The game is therefore already an integral part of many game collections.
If you are not yet familiar with it, here is a brief overview.
The aim of the game is for each player to go through 10 phases.
In each phase, they always have to complete a certain task and discard certain cards with numbers.
These can be twins, triplets, a sequence of numbers or a mixture of all of these.
As soon as a player has completed a phase, they can move on to the next phase.
If they do not manage to complete the phase, the player receives minus points.
In the end, the person who completes all phases first and has the fewest minus points wins.
Here is an overview of phase 10:

Quartet
After the numbers six and ten, it’s now all about the number four.
In the quartet game, you always have to look for four cards in one category.
Each player has random cards in their hand and must ask the other players for the missing cards.
However, they can only ask if they have at least one card of the category in their hand.
Once they have collected all four cards, they can discard the “quartet”, i.e. the four cards.
The winner has collected the most quartets at the end.
The game is especially great for children, as quartets are available in a wide variety of designs.
No matter what your child is interested in, there is probably a suitable quartet for them.
An overview of the quartet:
- Goal: Find 4 cards of one category
- Each player: random cards in hand
- Task: ask for missing cards
- All 4 cards of a category = discard
- Winner: most cards played

Taboo
Taboo usually makes for lots of laughs and lots of fun.
In this game, one player has to explain a word and the other players (often in teams) have to guess what it is.
The mysterious word is given from a card and 5 other words are forbidden.
These words may not be used for the explanation.
When the word has been guessed or the person explaining it has said one of the forbidden words, a new card is drawn.
When the time is up, the team that has guessed the most cards wins.
Taboo – briefly explained:
- Task: Player explains word from a card
- Card: 5 forbidden words = do not use
- Guess word / forbidden word: new card
- Winner: most guessed at the end of the time

The game is pure puzzle fun, especially for children, but older campers also often have a lot of fun with the game.
The players have to find another player with the werewolf card.
The players who are not werewolves take on the role of the villagers and have to vote the werewolves out of the game before they are eaten.
However, the werewolves can also kill all the villagers beforehand.
Will the villagers manage to win against the werewolves in the end?
An overview of the game Werewolves:
