Cassette toilet – When camping, you are usually out in nature for a long time as you drive from one campsite to the next.
However, there are not sanitary facilities everywhere you stop.
That’s why it makes sense to install a permanently integrated cassette toilet, especially in a motorhome or camper.
This gives you much more comfort and freedom and makes you more flexible on your trip so that you can make the most of your time and enjoy an eventful and unforgettable vacation.
But even if you are traveling with a rooftop tent, a portable toilet is advantageous.

Having your own toilet in the camper is not only practical, but also a hygienic way to enjoy your vacation.
Although there are different types of camping toilets, a cassette toilet is the best option for a camping trip.

Advantages of a cassette toilet

How does a cassette toilet work?
A cassette toilet consists of two parts: A mounted toilet and an easily removable tank.
A fill level indicator can be used to determine when the tank needs to be emptied, which can be done easily and simply using a suitable disposal pipe or at a disposal facility at the next opportunity.
A built-in flap ensures that the tank remains closed, preventing unpleasant odors.
Before the toilet is used, a small amount of water must be pumped from the water tank into the bowl so that the toilet is always supplied with water for flushing thanks to a fresh water system.
How often should I empty the cassette toilet?
As soon as the level indicator shows that the waste tank is full and needs to be emptied, it is time to do so.
However, you should not wait until the last minute if possible, as it can otherwise be very difficult to remove the tank.
If you are on the road for a long time and don’t use the toilet that often, you should empty it earlier to avoid unpleasant odors.
Even at the height of summer and in very warm regions, it is advisable to empty the toilet after two days at the latest, as odors spread even faster in the heat.
Proper cleaning & emptying in 7 steps
So that you can continue to enjoy your vacation to the fullest, it is important to not only clean your cassette toilet regularly, but also thoroughly.
I have summarized for you here what you need to consider and how to proceed:
- Inform fellow campers not to go to the toilet anymore
- Open the emptying flap from the outside
- Removing the cassette tank
- Carry the tank to the disposal facility
- Open the cap and tip out the contents
- Rinse the tank well several times
- Close and reinsert the cassette

Camping shower: bag, pump system & hot water
For many people, taking a shower in the morning is part of their daily routine.
Even if you spend most of your time camping in the great outdoors, you don’t want to have to do without your usual hygiene on camping trips.
This is no problem with a mobile camping shower.
You can simply take it with you in advance and refill it when needed, so you can enjoy your shower anytime and anywhere as usual. Read more here:
Toilet paper: self-dissolving & biodegradable
A topic that cannot be avoided.
The daily trip to the toilet is human, but hardly anyone wants to talk about it.
But it’s especially important for first-time campers to know a few things in advance.
Did you know on your first trip that you need different toilet paper as a camper than you do at home?
The toilet cassette in a camper van is not as powerful as the one at home.
The conventional paper does not dissolve, clogs the outlet or, in the worst case, damages the functions in the waste-holding tank.

Fresh water hose: clean drinking water when camping
The fresh water tank supplies your motorhome with clean water for showering, washing your hands and, if necessary, cooking and drinking.
To keep everything nice and sterile, the fresh water hose must be properly maintained on the campsite.
This is often not the case, as the damp hose in the blazing sun is the perfect breeding ground for germs.
What can you do?
Get a fresh water hose yourself!
But to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that the diameter and connection match, find out in advance.
