Our camping vacation at Lake Chiemsee
Last summer, I went camping with my family on Lake Chiemsee and used a roof tent as accommodation.
It was an unforgettable experience that I would recommend to anyone who likes to be outdoors and enjoy nature.
Thanks to the roof tent, we were able to organize our trip flexibly and start the day spontaneously every morning.

Lake Chiemsee is located in Bavaria and is the largest lake in the state.
It stretches along the picturesque foothills of the Alps and offers you a wonderful scenic panorama during your vacation.
We reached the lake from Cologne in around 7 hours with our Audi – and of course our roof tent on top!
Accommodation: Campsite directly on the lake
Lake Chiemsee is a popular destination due to its size and the numerous leisure activities on offer.
We opted for a pitch on a campsite right on the shore of the lake, from where we had a wonderful view of the mountains and the lake.
Chiemsee Camping Lambach
The Lambach campsite is located in a beautiful area, surrounded by mountains and forests, with direct access to the lake.
So you have the opportunity to camp right by the water and enjoy the breathtaking view of the lake!
The site is very well maintained and clean, with lots of green areas and shady spots to relax.
The sanitary facilities were modern and always clean.
There is also a washing machine and dryer, which were very practical for us.
The location of the site is ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and swimming.
The Chiemsee cycle path runs right past the site and there are many hiking trails in the area.
The lake also offers the opportunity for swimming and boating.
There is also a beach bar, a small store for everyday needs and a restaurant serving delicious food.
There is also a children’s playground and a table tennis table, which the children really enjoyed.
The highlights of the campsite:
- Beautiful location directly on the lake, surrounded by mountains and forests
- Well-kept and clean place
- Lots of green spaces and shady places to relax

Rooftop tent camping: Our daily routine
The roof tent was our home for the entire trip and we really liked it.
It was stable and spacious enough for the four of us and had plenty of room for our luggage and equipment.
The mattress was very comfortable and the kids had so much fun climbing up onto the car every time!
We looked forward to our adventures on Lake Chiemsee every day and enjoyed the many activities the lake had to offer.
We went on boat trips, hiked and sunbathed on the deckchairs on the beach.
In the evenings, we sat around the campfire, sang songs and talked about the days’ experiences.
Camping in the countryside really brought us together as a family!
