Gas cartridge – One of the most important things for a carefree camping vacation is definitely the right cooking equipment.
This allows you to cook for yourself at the campsite at any time.
Ideally, you should already have a camping kitchen with you and equip yourself with a gas stove in advance.
We also recommend a gas barbecue and perhaps even an espresso maker and a camping oven.
What you absolutely need for this, however, is a gas cartridge.

That’s why a camping stove is a must.
You will also need gas cartridges to keep your food warm.
But which gas cartridge is suitable for which camping stove and how long does a gas cartridge last?
Why you need gas cartridges
Gas when camping – With enough gas cartridges or gas bottles in your luggage, you are well prepared and can use your outdoor kitchen appliances anywhere and at any time.
In addition, cartridges last for several uses and can be purchased at any time if required.
As they hardly weigh anything and don’t take up much space, you can also simply take a supply of gas cartridges with you in advance.

Which gas cartridge is best suited?
Especially on longer trips, you don’t have to take a whole supply of gas cartridges with you, of course, but can simply buy them on the go.
However, you should find out in advance whether there is a suitable supermarket near your route that sells gas cartridges and, above all, check whether they are compatible with your gas stove.
This is because not all cartridges are suitable for every stove.
Once you have found the right cartridge for you, all you have to do is insert it into your stove and light it with a lighter.
Models: Various sizes & application
Of course, there are different variants and models of gas cartridges, which differ in size and application.
Depending on what kind of gas stove you have and what you want to use your cartridges for, you should buy the right cartridges.
A valve cartridge, for example, is screwed onto the stove and can be easily removed during transportation.
This means that no gas is released and you can simply stow your stove away without worrying.
In contrast, a piercing cartridge does not have its own valve and must be pierced when inserting it into the stove.
The cartridge should therefore remain in the camping stove until it is completely empty and should only then be removed.
You can choose from the following gas cartridges:
- Valve cartridge: Is screwed onto the gas stove
- Puncture cartridge: Is punctured
Gas: Different types & burning time
You should also pay attention to which gas is used in the cartridges.
Propane or butane gas are usually used.
Here too, there are differences in terms of the size of the cartridge and the burning time.
As a rule, 230 grams of gas at full power is enough for about 20 burns, each lasting about 3 minutes.
Depending on the intended use and length of your trip, you should therefore find out in advance.
- Propane or butane gas
- 230 grams of gas for 20 firing cycles of 3 minutes each
