But how do you find the perfect pitch to make this unique experience even more unforgettable?
Here you can find out valuable tips and tricks for choosing the perfect pitch when camping with a roof tent, so that you can relax and enjoy your vacation to the full.

Camping with a roof tent in the most beautiful places

According to Statista statistics, a total of 2,862 campsites with 209,103 pitches were open in Germany in 2020.

Camping with a roof tent opens up countless new opportunities to discover breathtaking landscapes and spend eventful days with your loved ones.
But to get the most out of this unique camping experience, choosing the right pitch is crucial.
Here is a summary of all the aspects to consider:

Research Find out in advance about campsites and other designated campsites in your desired region.
Wild camping Wild camping is generally prohibited, but tolerated in some countries or regions.
Watch out for nature reserves and bans.
Use apps and websites Use camping apps to find the best pitches.
Avoid crowded places Avoid busy and overcrowded campsites and look for alternative, less well-known places.
Private pitches Enquire about private individuals or farmers who occasionally receive campers on their land.
View and ambience Choose a pitch with impressive views such as mountains, lakes or picturesque landscapes.
Seclusion and tranquillity Search for remote places, far away from roads and crowds, to experience silence and nature.
Water source nearby Being close to a water source is practical and creates a calming atmosphere when camping.

The right campsite definitely contributes to a successful camping vacation full of fun, relaxation and adventure! Here are the points in more detail:

Do your research before you start your trip

Before you set off, it’s best to familiarize yourself with the campsites you want to visit on your trip so that you are as well prepared as possible and avoid any complications.
There are numerous apps and websites that have been specially developed for camping and provide detailed information about campsites.
For example, you may need to book your pitch in advance or only certain types of camping may be permitted.
If you are traveling with pets, you should also check in advance whether dogs are allowed at all and whether there are enough facilities for them to run around while you prepare the food, for example. You should bear this in mind when choosing your campsite:

  • Do I have to book / reserve in advance?
  • Are dogs allowed?
  • Is the campsite in a central location?
  • Can I travel with the roof tent?
  • Does the space give me a homely atmosphere?
  • Are (clean) sanitary facilities available?

Campsite search: What is important?

Depending on the route you are traveling along, you will come across different campsites with different facilities along the way.
After you have first checked whether the campsite is suitable for you and your type of travel, you should next pay attention to a few important criteria in order to enjoy your time here as much as possible.
Regardless of where you choose to stay, the site and the sanitary facilities should be clean and the price-performance ratio should definitely be right.
You can also make sure that your pitch is a little out of the way so that you still have your privacy and can enjoy the peace and quiet in the evening hours undisturbed.
Here are some factors you should keep in mind when looking for the right pitch:

  • Rest
  • Catering
  • Friendliness
  • Price-performance ratio
  • General cleanliness
  • Leisure activities
  • Location

If you choose your pitch according to certain criteria, the chances are good that you will feel completely at home here!

Attention!
Wild camping is not permitted

No matter how tempting it may sound to pitch your roof tent in a beautiful, idyllic spot in the countryside and camp there, wild camping is unfortunately prohibited in many places in Germany.
However, it is tolerated in some countries or regions, so always check the respective location.
Make sure that you do not camp in nature reserves, protected landscape areas or near prohibition signs.
Instead, look for legal pitches that are described as such.

Use apps and special websites

Modern technology offers campers a wealth of options for finding the perfect pitch.
Use camping apps and special websites that provide detailed information about pitches and campsites in your area.
Such apps not only show the exact location, but also reviews and experiences of other campers to help you decide.
GPS navigation can also be useful to guide you safely to your chosen pitch.

  • Camping apps can help you find suitable pitches
  • Use GPS navigation to find the location of the campsite

Avoid familiar and crowded places

Popular campsites can be overcrowded, especially in the high season, and detract from the charm of adventurous camping.
Avoid heavily frequented areas and look for alternative, less well-known locations.
This allows you to enjoy nature in peace and quiet and have an undisturbed camping experience.
Remote sites often offer more privacy and a deeper connection to the environment.

  • Campsites and pitches can be overcrowded in high season
  • Search for alternative, less well-known places to stay overnight

Instead of going to the next best, overcrowded campsite, look for less well-known, remote pitches!

Insider tip: Private places with a beautiful view

In addition to public campsites, there are also private sites where you can often enjoy special nature experiences.
Farmers or private individuals sometimes offer camping opportunities on their land that offer amazing views of natural highlights, for example.
These pitches are often less crowded and can offer you the opportunity to discover unique places not found on conventional platforms.
However, be respectful and always ask permission before entering private land.

  • Search for private individuals who welcome guests to their properties
  • You may find nice pitches that are not on camping platforms

Look out for picturesque views and ambience

Choosing a pitch with a breathtaking view can make your camping adventure unforgettable.
Look for places with impressive panoramas, such as mountains, valleys, lakes or picturesque landscapes.
A spectacular sunset or the clear starry sky at night are moments that you can experience particularly intensely in such surroundings.
The right atmosphere helps to make the camping experience an unforgettable one.
However, make sure that the view is not restricted by private property or local laws.

  • Choose a pitch that offers an impressive view
  • A lake or mountain range can enrich your camping experience

Seclusion, peace and privacy

Pitches away from busy roads and crowded campsites offer you more privacy and peace and quiet.
The more remote the location, the more likely it is that you will be able to enjoy nature undisturbed.
The remoteness also allows you to discover rare animal and plant species and enjoy a unique nature experience.
However, always adhere to local laws and regulations to protect sensitive ecosystems.

  • Search for secluded pitches away from the crowds
  • So you can enjoy nature undisturbed

Proximity to a water source is ideal

Ideally, your pitch should be very close to a water source such as a river, lake or spring.
This is not only practical for swimming and having the opportunity to cool off, but with the right water treatment, it also serves as drinking water and creates a calming atmosphere.
The sounds of running water can improve sleep and create a relaxing camping environment.
However, before you set up camp near any body of water, check the rules and make sure you’re being responsible with the environment.

  • It is advantageous to camp near a water source
  • You can bathe, swim or drink from the spring here
  • Flowing water creates a calming atmosphere

Camping near water immediately creates a particularly cozy atmosphere!

Material and processing.
The tent fabric of our trailer tents is made from a high-quality, 450 g blended fabric, also known as canvas. This unique combination of cotton and polyester combines the advantages of a natural fiber with those of a modern high-tech material. The result is a robust, breathable fabric that impresses with its pleasant feel and high dimensional stability.

The tent fabric, which is also used by the military, is impregnated and particularly tear-resistant thanks to the ripstop process. In this special weaving technique, thicker threads are woven into the fabric at intervals of around 10-15 millimetres, giving the fabric its characteristic tiled structure and exceptional tear resistance. It goes without saying that our fabrics are opaque and therefore offer optimum protection and privacy.
The basis of our trailer tents is a robust stainless steel frame with a thickness of 3×3 cm. A 1.8 cm thick, water-resistant wooden floor panel is securely fastened to this sturdy frame with stainless steel screws. The frame of the trailer tents is also made of galvanized steel tubing and special stainless steel components that ensure maximum stability. The modern surface finish not only offers a high level of corrosion protection, but also gives the material a pleasant feel and ensures a durable, weatherproof construction.
We rely exclusively on yarn from the German market leader Amann. Thanks to the combination of a cotton core and a high-tenacity polyester core, this yarn is characterized by a particularly high tensile strength and excellent water resistance.

On contact with water, the cotton coating swells and closes the seam holes created during sewing. For additional protection, all seams in the roof area are fitted with a transparent sealing strip to ensure maximum waterproofness.
Less is sometimes more.
We are often asked: What about the water column? For tent fabrics, the impermeability of the fabric is specified in the form of the water column. For cotton tents, this value is usually around 300 to 400 mm. However, our tent fabric offers an exceptionally high water column for cotton fabric of around 750 mm. This means that theoretically more than 75 cm of water can stand on the material before the first drops penetrate.

A major advantage of cotton as a natural raw material is its ability to swell when it gets damp, which provides additional waterproofing. In contrast, synthetic fabrics, which cannot swell, must have a much higher water column (between 3,000 and 10,000 mm, depending on the material) in order to achieve comparable waterproofness.
