Tips for a carefree time with children

Camping with a roof tent and children – is that even compatible?
Camping vacations are a great way to spend time with the family and enjoy nature.
With a rooftop tent in particular, you have the opportunity to travel flexibly and independently.
However, when children are involved, it is important that you take certain precautions and preparations to ensure that everyone has an unforgettable time. Here are 7 things you should keep in mind with children:

Preparation is the be-all and end-all – Tip 1

Before your trip, you should prepare well by getting the right roof tent model for you, finding out how to handle a roof tent and creating a checklist to make sure you have everything you need and have considered everything important.
Also check the weather in the region at the time of travel and pack suitable clothing for all family members.
You should keep this in mind:

  • Find the right roof tent model
  • Find out how to use the roof tent
  • Create a checklist so you don’t forget anything

Safe handling of the roof tent – tip 2

Also make sure that the roof tent is properly secured before you and especially your children go inside.
Always make sure that your children climb up carefully and do not play on the roof unsupervised.
Although a camping vacation is a lot of fun as well as being easy to handle, you should always keep an eye on your children.
Just in case, you should always have an emergency kit with you to be prepared for any situation.
The following applies to safety:

  • Check the correct installation on the roof
  • Show your children how to deal responsibly
  • Never leave your children unattended

Safety comes first – so always supervise your children when climbing up into the roof tent!

Plan your route in advance – tip 3

Even if camping is associated with spontaneity and flexibility, you should plan your rough route in advance, especially with children.
Think about how long you would like to stay at a particular location and look for suitable campsites in advance.
This way you can find out about the facilities and highlights of the campsite and already know what to expect there, whether the area is suitable for children and whether you might need any additional equipment.
What’s more, campsites can often be fully booked, especially in the peak summer season, so in the worst-case scenario you may not be able to find a pitch spontaneously.
Booking in advance is therefore an absolute recommendation when on vacation with children!
It makes your vacation easier:

  • Roughly plan your route in advance
  • Reserve campsites in advance

By planning your route before you start your trip, you can relax more on your camping vacation with children!

Important equipment for children – Tip 4

Pack the right equipment, including sufficient sleeping bags, sleeping mats and camping furniture to meet your children’s needs.
Of course, entertainment is also a must so that the little ones don’t get bored.

Child-friendly entertainment – Tip 5

Also plan enough outdoor activities for your children to keep them busy and happy.
These could include hiking, fishing, swimming or playing outside.
Don’t forget to take games, books or other activities with you in case you have to stay in the roof tent for a long time in the rain.
You should think about that:

  • Plan enough outdoor activities
  • Take games and books with you for entertainment

Even when camping, children always want to be entertained, so plan some exciting and child-friendly outdoor activities!

Hygiene and cleanliness on the road – tip 6

Always keep the roof tent and campsite clean and tidy when you’re on the road to avoid diseases and vermin.
Make sure that your children wash their hands before they eat and that you have enough paper towels, care products and cleaning agents with you.
Keep the following in mind:

  • Always keep the roof tent and campsite clean
  • Make sure your children wash their hands
  • Pack enough care and cleaning products

Don’t forget to eat and drink – Tip 7

Also, don’t forget to pack enough non-perishable food, snacks and drinking water.
Remember that cooking at the campsite can be a particular challenge, especially if you are traveling with children who want their usual food.
To avoid hungry and fussy children, it’s best to plan simple and quick meals in advance and bring the necessary ingredients with you from home or buy them when you get the chance.
Snacks for day trips and activities should also always be included.
Take practical cooking equipment with you, such as a gas stove and a gas barbecue, and familiarize yourself with how to use them so that things go as quickly as possible on the campsite.
Everything important summarized:

  • Pack enough food
  • Think about simple dishes in advance
  • Always buy the right ingredients
  • Think of cooking appliances, e.g: Gas stove
  • Take snacks with you for excursions

T-drawbar or V-fork ?
Thousands of trailer drivers know the problem of tight spaces only too well: if you drive into a narrow lane and have to turn, it is important to back your car as far as possible against the trailer in order to get around the bend without any problems. Material and processing.
The tent fabric of our trailer tents is made from a high-quality, 450 g blended fabric, also known as canvas. This unique combination of cotton and polyester combines the advantages of a natural fiber with those of a modern high-tech material. The result is a robust, breathable fabric that impresses with its pleasant feel and high dimensional stability.

The tent fabric, which is also used by the military, is impregnated and particularly tear-resistant thanks to the ripstop process. In this special weaving technique, thicker threads are woven into the fabric at intervals of around 10-15 millimetres, giving the fabric its characteristic tiled structure and exceptional tear resistance. It goes without saying that our fabrics are opaque and therefore offer optimum protection and privacy.
The basis of our trailer tents is a robust stainless steel frame with a thickness of 3×3 cm. A 1.8 cm thick, water-resistant wooden floor panel is securely fastened to this sturdy frame with stainless steel screws. The frame of the trailer tents is also made of galvanized steel tubing and special stainless steel components that ensure maximum stability. The modern surface finish not only offers a high level of corrosion protection, but also gives the material a pleasant feel and ensures a durable, weatherproof construction.
We rely exclusively on yarn from the German market leader Amann. Thanks to the combination of a cotton core and a high-tenacity polyester core, this yarn is characterized by a particularly high tensile strength and excellent water resistance.

On contact with water, the cotton coating swells and closes the seam holes created during sewing. For additional protection, all seams in the roof area are fitted with a transparent sealing strip to ensure maximum waterproofness.
Less is sometimes more.
We are often asked: What about the water column? For tent fabrics, the impermeability of the fabric is specified in the form of the water column. For cotton tents, this value is usually around 300 to 400 mm. However, our tent fabric offers an exceptionally high water column for cotton fabric of around 750 mm. This means that theoretically more than 75 cm of water can stand on the material before the first drops penetrate.

A major advantage of cotton as a natural raw material is its ability to swell when it gets damp, which provides additional waterproofing. In contrast, synthetic fabrics, which cannot swell, must have a much higher water column (between 3,000 and 10,000 mm, depending on the material) in order to achieve comparable waterproofness.
