Fitting the roof tent: Roof load & weight
Before buying a roof tent, you should first determine the roof load of your car.

Next, choose the roof tent variant that best suits your vacation and your ideas.
Depending on the size and material, a roof tent weighs around 50 – 80 kg.
You should definitely pay attention to the weight, as you have to match this to the roof load of your car.
However, this is usually not a problem.
Much more important are the roof racks on your car, which you need to mount the roof tent.
These must first be attached to the roof so that the roof tent can be slid onto them.
Most roof tent models have at least two rails at the bottom of the tent.
These are used to simply slide the tent onto the roof racks already attached to the car and secure it.
The specialists will usually do this for you when you buy the tent, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.
