Things to do: To-do list & tips for activities

Both scenic highlights and exciting activities await you at Lake Schwerin.
The best things to do here are outdoor activities!
First of all, many people come here to bathe in the lake, swim or sunbathe in the bays on the beach.
But water sports are also highly recommended here.
Try sailing, for example, take a boat tour, go fishing or diving.
But there is also plenty to see and experience away from the lake.
A visit to the castle gardens, for example, is one of the most popular attractions in the region.
The following activities should be on your to-do list:

My top tips:

Take a bike tour on the circular route around the lake

One of the most popular activities on a vacation at Lake Schwerin is definitely a bike tour around the lake.
There are routes of varying lengths, which may be more or less suitable for you depending on your fitness level, time and preferences.
The “Blue Eight” circular route is considered a highlight and has a total length of around 65 kilometers.
Experienced cyclists can complete the tour in one day, less experienced cyclists should ideally split the route over several days.
The circular route is very close to nature, runs directly along the lake and has a few scenic highlights along the way that you can visit during a short stop.
The cycle tour at a glance:

  • Total length: 65 kilometers
  • Loop around the inner lake: 32 kilometers
  • Loop around the outer lake: 37 kilometers
  • Start and finish of the circular route: Schwerin Castle

It is located on the castle island in Lake Schwerin.

A vacation in winter is also highly recommended

In winter, and therefore in the low season, the entire region is definitely not as crowded as in summer.
This means you can enjoy the idyllic atmosphere completely undisturbed with your loved ones.
You can expect picturesque landscapes with a winter wonderland charm that you can marvel at on walks.
The beaches are also likely to be deserted, so you can watch the sunset in comfort, for example.

Nature camping right by the lake: an alternative to a vacation apartment

On a camping vacation, you can enjoy the peace and quiet, the feeling of freedom and closeness to nature well into the evening hours and at the same time be much more flexible than in a hotel or vacation apartment.
With a roof tent on your own car, you can drive anywhere and plan several different stops for overnight stays.
If necessary, the tent can be folded up in a matter of minutes, giving you an enormously large and, above all, comfortable living area.
You can choose the model you want and configure it to suit your needs.
So nothing stands in the way of your eventful camping vacation!
Read more about roof tent models, prices, roof load and advantages here: Roof tent for your car.
Or visit one of the camping fairs near you for more information.
A camping vacation guarantees you these advantages:

  • Feeling of freedom and closeness to nature into the evening hours
  • Flexible and spontaneous travel arrangements
  • Several overnight stays and stops are possible
  • Cozy get-together at the campsite
  • Cheaper than a hotel or vacation apartment
  • Dog and family friendly

Probably one of the best reasons to go camping?
Your dog has all the freedom! A dog swims through a lake and green leaves can be seen in the background.

Camping packing list: Tips, recommendations & checklist

Nowadays, most people no longer go camping with just the bare essentials.
Instead, it can be a little more luxurious.
Instead of a 2-person tent, it is more comfortable to travel in a comfortable roof tent and important outdoor equipment such as chairs, table and loungers are also a must on the campsite.
Is tidiness the be-all and end-all for you?
There is also a practical solution for this when camping!
Here’s a checklist to help you take all the essentials with you on your camping vacation and make the most of your time.
These top 5 things should definitely be on your packing list:

Are you a camping beginner? Read all about the basics of packing lists, routes, costs, tips etc. here: Camping beginners.

Accommodation: Campsite recommendations – close to nature & central

As wild camping is generally prohibited in Germany, you should choose one or more campsites for your overnight stay.
However, these are very close to nature, so wild camping is not necessary.
Nevertheless, the campsites offer a central location, plenty of pitches, clean sanitary facilities and a range of leisure activities.
Here I have summarized some popular, central and inexpensive campsites:

  • Rest
  • Catering
  • Friendliness
  • Price-performance ratio

Material and processing.
The tent fabric of our trailer tents is made from a high-quality, 450 g blended fabric, also known as canvas. This unique combination of cotton and polyester combines the advantages of a natural fiber with those of a modern high-tech material. The result is a robust, breathable fabric that impresses with its pleasant feel and high dimensional stability.

The tent fabric, which is also used by the military, is impregnated and particularly tear-resistant thanks to the ripstop process. In this special weaving technique, thicker threads are woven into the fabric at intervals of around 10-15 millimetres, giving the fabric its characteristic tiled structure and exceptional tear resistance. It goes without saying that our fabrics are opaque and therefore offer optimum protection and privacy.
The basis of our trailer tents is a robust stainless steel frame with a thickness of 3×3 cm. A 1.8 cm thick, water-resistant wooden floor panel is securely fastened to this sturdy frame with stainless steel screws. The frame of the trailer tents is also made of galvanized steel tubing and special stainless steel components that ensure maximum stability. The modern surface finish not only offers a high level of corrosion protection, but also gives the material a pleasant feel and ensures a durable, weatherproof construction.
We rely exclusively on yarn from the German market leader Amann. Thanks to the combination of a cotton core and a high-tenacity polyester core, this yarn is characterized by a particularly high tensile strength and excellent water resistance.

On contact with water, the cotton coating swells and closes the seam holes created during sewing. For additional protection, all seams in the roof area are fitted with a transparent sealing strip to ensure maximum waterproofness.
Less is sometimes more.
We are often asked: What about the water column? For tent fabrics, the impermeability of the fabric is specified in the form of the water column. For cotton tents, this value is usually around 300 to 400 mm. However, our tent fabric offers an exceptionally high water column for cotton fabric of around 750 mm. This means that theoretically more than 75 cm of water can stand on the material before the first drops penetrate.

A major advantage of cotton as a natural raw material is its ability to swell when it gets damp, which provides additional waterproofing. In contrast, synthetic fabrics, which cannot swell, must have a much higher water column (between 3,000 and 10,000 mm, depending on the material) in order to achieve comparable waterproofness.
