Family fun in the snow: snowboarding during winter camping

Winter camping with snowboarding?
A great idea!
Snowboarding is not only fun for the whole family, but also allows you to conquer snow-covered slopes directly from the campsite.
Not only does it promote family fun in the snow, but it also offers a sporting challenge that improves balance and coordination.
You don’t need to worry, because getting started is straightforward.
Snowboarding doesn’t require expensive equipment, especially if you want to try it out first.
Many campsites have a ski and snowboard school nearby where you can hire snowboarding equipment.
You can also often do Kurdish there.
If you use a roof tent, you can also simply fold up the roof tent and then drive to the ski and snowboard school.
This gives you flexibility – despite camping.
You can take a look at various roof tents here:

Here you will find tips in video form so that you can get a better idea before your first ride.

Basic posture, falling & getting up: the first steps

In this video, a snowboard instructor shows you the first steps before you hit the mountain.
He explains the basic position, weight shifting, body turns, falling techniques and how to stand up after falling.
These theoretical approaches are important so that you get a safe feeling on the snowboard and can prevent injuries.
Once you have mastered the basic technique sufficiently, you are ready to hit the mountain.

Driving on a slope: first bends on a mountain

In this video, the complete basic stance is explained to you once again and tips are given for practicing the start of your ride.
It also gives you advice on how to find out whether “goofy” or “regular” is your riding direction and how to learn how to ride turns on a slope.
In particular, you can take a look at the alternation between gliding on the flat bottom and sliding on the edge.

Tips for beginners: learning to snowboard

As with learning to ski, your snowboard is also connected to your boots via a special binding.
These should be tailored to your size and weight.
The rental shop or specialist retailer can advise you on this.

Start: Get up, drive off & steer

The classic way to start snowboarding is from a sitting position.
Then push yourself up into a standing position, initially using your heels to be on the safe side.
Alternatively, you can also turn around and stand up from a prone position using your knees and toes.
To gain a secure footing on the board, it can help to do a few squats at the beginning, lean to the sides and press the edges of the snowboard into the snow.
You will need this technique later on when you want to make a turn.
You can get started with these tips:

  1. Standing up from a sitting or prone position
  2. Do squats for a secure stance
  3. Press longer edges into the snow

Driving: How to get down the mountain!

Because when you are standing on the board, it is best to align it so that it is at a slight angle to the slope.
You now need the edges to brake, because the edge at the heel slows you down.
To do this, you need to lean back a little.
If, on the other hand, you lean forward, you will speed up.
Now you just have to see which foot you want to push forward at an angle.
On older snowboards, the front part, the “nose”, was rounded and not at the back.
This is no longer the case with the current ones, so you can decide for yourself where the front and back are for you.
So it all depends on how you feel.
The two variants are called “Goofy”, where the right foot is at the front and with “Regular” your left foot should be at the front.
Now you know what the snowboarder means when he talks about the two positions.
This way you can start riding your snowboard:

  1. Place the board at a slight angle to the slope
  2. Lean forward for speed
  3. Rear edge of the snowboard brakes
  4. Left or right foot can be in front
    • Left = “Regular”
    • Right = “Goofy”
